Candy maker says THC-laced product in donations was fake

SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — The company that makes Nerds candy says a version of the product infused with the psychoactive ingredient in marijuana that was eaten by Utah children after being donated to a food bank was counterfeit. Company officials said Tuesday they are cooperating with police investigating how the candy ended up in bags picked up by dozens of families north of Salt Lake City Friday amid widespread economic hardship during the coronavirus crisis. Authorities say two children were hospitalized after eating the candy but were later released and are expected to make a full recovery. The Utah Food Bank has said it is changing its  processes to keep anything similar from happening again.
