Gov. Herbert announces plan to “test Utah” for COVID-19

During the early afternoon of Apr. 2 Gov. Gary Herbert announced a plan to “test Utah” for COVID-19. The plan will be called the #TestUtahChallenge and is a partnership between the state and Utah’s own Silicon Slopes. The goal is to test everyone in Utah who needs it.

More details about the plan will be announced when Silicon Slopes holds their virtual town hall, which will be streamed from their YouTube page at 4:00 p.m. on Apr. 2.

According to the information currently available the challenge requires three things to happen. First, all Utah residents visit TestUtah.com and take a five minute online assessment that will ask them about symptoms they may be experiencing, pre-existing conditions, people they have come in contact with, etc.

Second, those who qualify for a test based on the assessment will receive an email that provides a unique QR code and a time slot at a COVID-19 testing center near them. Their test results will be emailed or texted to them once they are available along with instructions on the next steps they need to take if necessary.

Third, if an individual tests positive, they will be asked to answer a few questions so state health officials can trace the spread of the virus.

Gov. Herbert also announced that the state, alongside with Silicon Slopes, hope to increase the number of testing facilities soon.
