Construction started for Sigurd solar power plant

Construction has officially begun for the solar power plant in Sigurd.

According to Sevier County economic development director, Malcolm Nash, the project will cover 600 acres on either side of Interstate 70 and will provide 80 megawatt.

Up to 300 workers are expected to help with the construction phase of the project which is currently in the phase of making sure the groundwork is in order.

The project has been in development for more than two years, and according to Nash “in about 30 to 60 days, you’ll see panels start to arrive.”

Nash stated that the approximately $90 million project is an investment that helps diversify the region’s energy generation portfolio
