SUU Men’s Basketball Returns To Action Saturday At Eastern Washington

CHENEY, Wash.-Saturday, Southern Utah men’s basketball (11-6, 4-2 in Big Sky Conference play) returns to action on the hardwood by visiting the Eastern Washington Eagles (11-6, 4-2 in Big Sky play) with second place in the Big Sky on the line.

The Thunderbirds are coached by Todd Simon (47-69, .405) who is in his fourth season at the helm of the SUU program.

Simon has the Thunderbirds at their highest point in his tenure.

SUU scores 74.4 points per game, ranking the Thunderbirds 106th nationally in scoring offense.

Redshirt senior guard/forward Cameron Oluyitan leads SUU in scoring (14 points per game), assists (40) and steals (23).

Junior guard John Knight III (13.5 points per game) and redshirt senior forward Dwayne Morgan (10.8 points per game) also score in double figures on-average this season for the Thunderbirds.

Sophomore guard Harrison Butler leads SUU in rebounding (7.2 boards per game) and Senegalese national, redshirt center Daouda (David) N’Diaye leads the squad with 20 blocked shots.

The Thunderbirds surrender 63.1 points per game, ranking SUU 48th nationally in scoring defense.

The Eagles are coached by third-year head coach Shantay Legans (47-39, .547) who had Eastern Washington as Big Sky favorites this preseason.

The Eagles score 83.2 points per game, ranking them second in the nation in scoring offense.

Redshirt junior guard Jacob Davison leads Eastern Washington in scoring (17.9 points per game) and steals (34).

Redshirt sophomore forward/guard Kim Aiken Jr. (15.4 points per game, a team-best 10.7 rebounds per game) and senior forward Mason Peatling (14.9 points, 7.5 rebounds per game, a team-best 21 blocked shots) also score in double figures on average for the Eagles.

Freshman guard Ellis Magnuson has a team-best 96 assists for Eastern Washington.

The Eagles surrender 74.9 points per game, ranking them 300th nationally in scoring defense.

Eastern Washington leads SUU 13-6 all-time and has won 12 out of the last 14 matchups in the series.
