In a post to their Facebook page on Dec. 26 Richfield City Police warn Richfield residents of fraudulent checks being sent in the mail.
According to the post they “had a counterfeit check brought in to their office Dec. 26 for a large amount of money.” They told that it was sent in a regular US Postal shipping envelop from a mystery shopper or work from home scam.
They warn that if you cash these checks you are responsible to pay back the funds when the check bounces.
If you have received a check you think is suspicious you are advised to take the check to your bank and tell them you are concerned that it is fraudulent and the bank will check the routing number for you.
Another red flag the Richfield City Police advised people to look for is that the people want you to send them money back, warning that “you should never send money back.”
They also stated that you should always remember that “MONEY IS NEVER FREE!”
