SALT LAKE CITY-Friday, Utah men’s basketball, after besting Nevada 79-73 Tuesday at Reno, Nev., welcomes the Mississippi Valley State Delta Devils for their home opener at the Huntsman Center.
The 1-0 Utes are 95-16 (.856) all-time in home openers and 18-3 (.857) when these home openers are not season openers as is the case this season.
Utah is 43-7 (.860) all-time in season openers at the Huntsman Center.
In the win over the Wolf Pack Tuesday, sophomore forward Timmy Allen (23 points, 11 rebounds, 8-16 shooting) led the charge while the Utes were +19 (51-32) on the glass in the win. This currently ties the Utes for 32nd nationally in rebound margin with Delaware, Indiana and defending national champion Virginia.
Utah head coach Larry Krystkowiak is currently 198-131 (.602) all-time as a collegiate head coach and was 3-1 all-time in NBA games against Delta Devils head coach Lindsey Hunter as they played against each other with various teams.
Mississippi Valley State is 0-1 on the season after falling 110-74 to Iowa State Tuesday.
The Delta Devils were led by senior guard Michael Green (22 points, 8 assists, 10-19 shooting, 1-1 on 3-pointers) against the Cyclones.
The Utes are 2-0 all-time against Mississippi Valley State and Krystkowiak is 3-0 all-time against the Delta Devils dating back to his days as the head coach at Montana.
