Police were called out in the afternoon of Saturday Nov. 2 to a report of a shooting in Annabella.
Police arrived from three different agencies to the incident, only to find out that it was a fake call.
Officers were very careful in approaching the house, but upon further inspection found the owner of the home calmly laying tile in the front room.
According to County Sheriff Nathan Curtis this type of incident is what is known as “swatting.”
Swatting is when someone calls dispatch and makes a fake report designed to “get a significant response from law enforcement.”
Curtis states that this is extremely dangerous and puts a lot of people at risk including the people living in the home as well as individuals on the road while officers are responding to the call.
Investigations are still ongoing to try and locate where the call came from as well as who made it. The area code on the call was from the east coast, but according to Curtis could have had a fake id.
Sheriff Curtis stated that everyone was ok and that he was glad that the report that was in the original phone call wasn’t true.
