Leamington fire breaks out in Wood Canyon in Millard County

Update: The Leamington fire is now contained with a little help from some snow on Oct. 27. Fire crews will continue to monitor the area for the next few days.

3,700 total acres were burned in the fire.

A fire broke out in west Millard county on Oct. 26 to the south east of Leamington in Wood Canyon.

West Millard county VFD’s along with forest service and BLM are working to suppress the Leamington fire with engines, water tenders, and a five-person squad.

The fire behavior is running in grass and the Leamington Pass Road is temporarily closed while firefighters perform a burnout operation along the road.

This burnout will provide a firebreak, or a gap, in vegetation that acts as a barrier to slow or stop the progress of the fire.

The fire was human caused and and is still being investigated.

An estimated 1,216 acres have burned so far. Currently no structures are threatened.
