The Sanpete County Food Pantry may be forced to close at the end of the year.
They reported in a Facebook post that they have lost their major funding streams with the loss of Drive4Food and Cardboard Collection.
The Pantry still has plenty of food donations, but don’t have enough funds to continue to cover operational costs. In their Facebook post they stated that they turned to the County Commission, but that “they were turned down flat!”
They currently only have enough funds to finish this year and are asking citizens to contact their local leaders and tell them that “we need to save the pantry!”
The Sanpete Pantry is a privately-run non-profit food bank that has been providing meals for families in need throughout Sanpete County since 2013.
The Pantry serves about 12,000 people each year, distributing 30,000 pounds of food monthly.
The original Facebook post said more information would be given Oct. 10, but a later one stated that they will no longer be giving updates on that site.
