A Utah resident was killed in a four-car crash on Monday September 30th south of Laramie, Wyoming.
According to Wyoming Highway Patrol, Matthew R. Anderson, age 52, of Annabella, was driving a semi tractor-trailer east on Wyoming Highway 230 about 1:00 p.m when the crash occurred.
A Ford pickup truck that was also driving east, was stopped on the road waiting to make a left turn, police said. Anderson’s truck, followed by a GMC pickup truck, was coming up behind the Ford truck when the GMC truck passed Anderson, according to Wyoming Highway Patrol.
According to the police the driver of the GMC truck hadn’t noticed the Ford stopped in the road ahead of Anderson’s truck and hit the Ford from behind, pushing the Ford into the westbound lane. The Ford truck was then pushed into the path of another tractor-trailer driving the opposite direction, resulting in a head-on collision.
Wyoming Highway Patrol said the driver of the westbound semi then lost control and entered the eastbound lane, colliding head-on with Anderson. The westbound semi then tipped and rolled.
Anderson died at the scene from his injuries. It’s unknown whether or not Anderson was wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash according to police.
Wyoming Patrol said that they are investigating whether inattention, unsafe passing, or speed on the part of the driver of the GMC contributed to the crash. The other three drivers involved in the crash were transported to a hospital with injuries.
