SALT LAKE CITY-Briley Knight came through with a key bottom of the 7th Inning home run as the Utah Utes got past the Washington State Cougars 6-4 Thursday at Smith’s Ballpark in Pac-12 baseball action.

Chase Fernlund added 2 RBI for the Utes, as they improved to 13-32 and 5-23 in Pac-12 play.

Meanwhile, the slumping Cougars fell to 10-38-1 and 2-22-1 in Pac-12 competition.

Nick Caviglia was credited with the win for the Utes, while Zac McCleve earned his fourth save of the season in relief for Utah.

Rob Teel had 2 RBI in the loss for the Cougars.

SANTA CLARA, Calif.-Ryan McCarty’s grand slam in the first inning provided all the offense Santa Clara needed as the Broncos upset West-Coast leading BYU 4-2 Thursday at Stephen Schott Stadium.

The win improved Santa Clara to 12-38 and 5-20 in conference play while the Cougars fell to 34-15 and 17-8 in league play.

Casey Jacobsen went yard in defeat for BYU while Russell Grant II earned the in on the mound for the Broncos.

EDINBURG, Texas-Hunter Lessard scored on a wild pitch in the bottom of the 9th Inning as Texas-Rio Grande Valley outlasted Utah Valley 2-1 Thursday at UTRGV Baseball Stadium in WAC play.

The Vaqueros improved to 32-19 and 17-8 in WAC play as this commemorated the third time in school history they have won 17 conference games.

This is now UTRGV’s winningest season since 1991, when the Vaqueros went 37-21.

Kade Poulson had a 2-RBI double in defeat for the Wolverines, as they fell to 14-36 and 9-15 in league play.
