3-A Baseball Championship Game
KEARNS, Utah-The Richfield Wildcats executed spectacularly in prevailing 9-3 over Summit Academy Saturday to capture the 3-A baseball state championship at Gates Field at Kearns High School.
The Wildcats ended the season at 25-3 as Morgan Albrecht earned the win on the mound for Richfield, giving them their first state baseball title since 1992.
The win was special for Albrecht as it came the day before Mother’s Day, while his mother, Annicka, passed away this past February during the 3-A basketball tournament.
The Wildcats honored Annicka Albrecht with a special jersey patch on their gray uniforms, which read “Annicka Albrecht, 4 love of the game” in purple lettering.
Annicka’s favorite color was purple so the Wildcats all wore purple socks with their baseball uniforms as they pulled out this decisive victory.
Brittyn Riddle had an RBI triple for Richfield, while Trey Roundy and Jake Shepherd each added RBI singles for the Wildcats.
Additionally, Emmitt Hafen had a 2-RBI double for Richfield and Nate Winters came through with another RBI single for the Wildcats.
Richfield also added 10 hits on the afternoon, for good measure.
2-A Baseball Championship
ST. GEORGE, Utah-Bryson Barnes tripled, doubled twice and earned the win on the mound as the Milford Tigers won their first state title in school history by vanquishing the Enterprise Wolves 9-4 Saturday at Bruce Hurst Field on the campus of Dixie State University. Andrew Bowler and Matthew Bowler doubled in the loss for the Wolves.
2-A Championship Round
ST. GEORGE, Utah-Alec Williams homered and the Milford Tigers forced a de facto 2-A championship game by downing the Enterprise Wolves 11-9 at Bruce Hurst Field on the campus of Dixie State University Tuesday.
Softball
3-A Championship
SPANISH FORK, Utah-Hannah Butler, Jaelynn Delaney and Laura Sandberg homered as Grantsville won their third consecutive 3-A state title by routing Manti 12-2 Saturday at the Spanish Fork Complex. August Cowan earned the win in the circle for Grantsville.
3-A Championship Round
SPANISH FORK, Utah-Hannah Butler homered twice, while Laura Sandberg and Maddison Peterson also went yard as Grantsville gashed Manti 11-1 at the Spanish Fork Complex Saturday. Peterson also took the win in the circle for Grantsville.
3-A One-Loss Bracket
SPANISH FORK, Utah-August Cowan and Maddison Peterson each homered as Grantsville stymied North Sanpete 6-2 Saturday at the Spanish Fork Complex.
2-A Championship
ST. GEORGE, Utah-Ronnie Robinson doubled and Kangie Bundy earned the win in the circle as Enterprise outlasted Gunnison Valley 6-5 at the Canyons Complex Saturday, giving the Wolves their first softball state championship in school history. Paige King tripled, while Maddie Edwards and Tayler Brackett doubled in the loss for the Bulldogs.
2-A One-Loss Bracket
ST. GEORGE, Utah-Katelyn Cherry hit the go-ahead home run in the 6th Inning and the Gunnison Valley Bulldogs humbled Beaver 11-10 Saturday at the Canyons Complex in the 2-A softball one-loss bracket. Halle Bjerregaard, Kezzley Winn, McKaylyn Edwards, Paige King and Tayler Brackett added doubles in the win for the Bulldogs.
