Boys Basketball

1-A State Championship Game @ SVC

RICHFIELD, Utah-Hayes Giles posted 13 points and 8 rebounds as the Tabiona Tigers overpowered Panguitch 47-39 to win their first 1-A state boys title since 1999 Saturday at the Sevier Valley Center. Acey Orton had 19 points and 10 rebounds in the loss for the Bobcats. Panguitch’s season ends with a record of 18-8. Tabiona has three all-time state championships now in school history: 1997, 1999 and 2019.

1-A 3rd-4th Place Game @ SVC

RICHFIELD, Utah-T.J. Brinkerhoff posted 15 points on 5-7 shooting as the Bryce Valley Mustangs downed Rich 53-47 in the 1-A 3rd-4th place game at the Sevier Valley Center Saturday, claiming third place. Treyson Roberts added 13 points and 6 rebounds on 5-10 shooting in victory for the Mustangs. Jared Anderson had 11 points to pace the Rebels in defeat. Bryce Valley’s season concludes with a record of 18-7.

1-A 5th-7th Place Game @ SVC

RICHFIELD, Utah-Gavin Hoyt posted 19 points and 6 rebounds on 8-14 shooting as the Valley Buffaloes smacked Monticello 53-42 Saturday in the 1-A 5th-7th place game at the Sevier Valley Center. Lucas Hatch had 11 points for the Bucakroos in the loss. Valley finishes the season at 20-6.

1-A 6th-8th Place Game @ SVC

RICHFIELD, Utah-Kelby Jessen netted 19 points and the Piute Thunderbirds won the consolation bracket with a 65-38 rout of Milford Saturday at Richfield High School, taking sixth place at the 1-A state tournament. Zach Sherwood led the Tigers in defeat with 13 points.

Girls Basketball

1-A State Championship Game @ SVC

RICHFIELD, Utah-Brittney Henrie made a clutch 3-pointer as the 3rd Quarter buzzer expired and pair of clutch free throws late and Mataya Barney posted 12 points and 7 rebounds on 6-10 shooting as the Panguitch Bobcats won their 13th state title by outlasting Piute 38-35 Saturday in the 1-A girls championship game at the Sevier Valley Center. Karlee Eyre added 11 points on 4-7 from the field in the win for the Bobcats. In trailing 25-16 after three, the Thunderbirds unleashed a furious comeback, only to be outdone by Henrie’s big shots at key moments. Jordyn Kennedy had 12 points and 8 rebounds in the loss for Piute while Vanessa Delgado had 6 points and came up with several key hustle plays to give the Thunderbirds a chance at the upset. The Bobcats end the season at 24-2, including a perfect 11-0 in Region 20 play.

1-A 5th-7th Place Game @ SVC

RICHFIELD, Utah-For the second time in as many games, Wayne’s Brynnli Nelson made a dramatic shot to end the game as her Badgers benefited from her 3-pointer to beat the buzzer in downing Monument Valley 64-63 Saturday in the 1-A 5th-7th place game at the Sevier Valley Center. Nelson amassed 27 points and 6 rebounds on the game to lead the Badgers, who claimed fifth place at the state tournament. Erianne Cly netted 20 points and 11 boards in the loss for the Cougars. The Badgers end the season at 15-9 and 9-2 in Region 19 play as this was a region contest for Wayne.

1-A 6th-8th Place Game @ Richfield H.S.

RICHFIELD, Utah-Esther Cox stepped up with 18 points as the Valley Buffaloes vanquished Milford 46-37 Saturday to win the consolation bracket at Richfield High School, taking sixth place in the 1-A state tournament. Aliza Woolsey had 13 points in the loss for the Tigers.
