Ephraim Middle School held their 68th annual Candlelight ceremony on Wednesday evening, and two local people were presented with the Candlelight award. Carol Nelson of Ephraim and Vaun Mickelsen of Manti were both honored for their service to the community.
Carol was born and raised in Ephraim and worked for the South Sanpete School District for a number of years, particularly with the HOST program. Following her retirement, she has continued to volunteer at the elementary school. Her family says she is the glue that holds them together.
Vaun Mickelsen was raised in Salina and served for 29 years in the military. He was an educator for 32 years and also served for 28 years as a Scoutmaster. Besides his service to the community, Vaun is a farmer and also served as a Manti City Councilman.
The Ephraim Middle School 7th and 8th grade music students entertained the large crowd at the Eccles Center before the Candles were presented by the Ephraim Middle School Honor Students.
