Dixie State Outlasts Western State Saturday

ST. GEORGE, Utah-Easton Smith threw a pair of touchdown passes and the Dixie State Trailblazers overcame being held to -1 yards rushing to best Western State 17-10 Saturday in Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference play at Trailblazers Stadium.

Smith was 6-11 for 167 yards and had scoring strikes to Dejuan Dantzler (83 yards) and Xavier Smith (32 yards).

Smith’s scoring reception was the game-winner as it came with 2:33 left in the 4th Quarter.

The Mountaineers, who fell to 0-7 and 0-6 in RMAC play, played arguably their best game of the season as they came in surrendering 41 points and nearly 500 yards of offense a game.

The win improved the Trailblazers to 5-2 on the season and 5-1 in conference play.

Dixie State returns to the road next Saturday as they face the Chadron State Eagles at 12:00 pm MDT at Chadron, Neb.
