LOGAN, Utah-Monday, per numerous reports, Utah State hired former Northern Iowa mens basketball head coach Ben Jacobson to head the Aggies program.
This was confirmed by USU vice president/director of athletics Cameron Walker.
In spending the past 20 seasons at Cedar Falls, Iowa as the Panthers’ head coach, Jacobson recorded a record of 397-259 (.605), becoming the program’s all-time leader in wins and averaging 19.8 wins per campaign.
Furthermore, Jacobson led the Panthers to five NCAA Tournament apperances and four wins in those appearances.
Jacobson is a five-time Missouri Valley Conference Coach of the Year, becoming the first coach in conference history to do so.
Jacobson starred at North Dakota from 1989-1993, becoming the Fighting Sioux’s (now the Fighting Hawks) all-time assists leader and leading the squad to two NCAA Division II Elite Eight apperances and two conference championships.
Jacobson is a native of Mayville, N.D. and a 1994 graduate of the University of North Dakota.
Jacobson will appear before the media Tuesday morning at 9:00 am for an introductory press conference. The event is open to the public.
