(Salt Lake City, UT) — The U-S Department of Justice is suing Utah to get access to private voter information. The suit targets Lieutenant Governor Deidre Henderson. The Trump administration says she has not handed over the names, dates of birth, addresses and driver’s license numbers of all Utah voters. Henderson said that request would violate state law. She’s offered to share the information that’s already public, just not the private information. A similar lawsuit that targeted California was struck down by a federal judge who called it “unprecedented and illegal”. The DOJ believes a civil rights law from the 1960s gives them the right to demand the private records.
