State Lawmakers Advance Bill On Unmarked Police Cars And Quotas

(Salt Lake City, UT) — State lawmakers are advancing two bills that deal with police quotas and unmarked squad cars. Republican State Senator Dan McCay has a bill that would ban police in unmarked cars from making stops that only involve an infraction, like speeding. He thinks it’s often inappropriate to get pulled over by a plain-clothes cop in a remote area. That bill made it through a committee vote on Friday. Republican State Senator Todd Weiler got a different bill through committee on Friday. If passed, it would require police agencies to offer evidence that they are not writing tickets to meet a quota.
