(Salt Lake City, UT) — Utah is testing America’s first AI system that can refill prescriptions. The pilot program is being operated by the state and a company called Doctronic. An AI system will refill prescriptions for people with chronic conditions. If successful, it could provide other states with a new way to reduce medical costs and increase efficiencies. But, the CEO of the American Medical Association tells Politico that eliminating doctors from the equation could have dangerous consequences. One concern is how AI will handle addiction issues if it’s prescribing narcotics.
