(Salt Lake City, UT) — A judge is facing threats after rejecting the Utah congressional map that was drawn by lawmakers in favor of a map that was drawn by voter organizations. The court did not specify what kind of threats were made, but indicated there have been threats of violence. Patrols are being stepped up at the Matheson Courthouse. Last week, Judge Diana Gibson ruled that a congressional map drawn by Republican state lawmakers violates Proposition 4. She said the map unfairly favored the GOP. She instead implemented a map created by voter groups who sued over the issue back in 2021. Some Republican lawmakers have called for her impeachment.
