A teacher’s aide in Millard School District has been arrested, accused of hitting a student. Melissa Diane Davis, age 56, was an instructional assistant at Fillmore Elementary in a special education classroom. According to a police booking affidavit, a Millard County Sheriff’s deputy was shown a video of Davis “striking an 8-year-old student with an open hand multiple times…In the video, it appears the suspect struck the student on the arm, torso and possibly the head.” Davis was booked into the Millard County Jail Oct. 30 for investigation of abuse of a child with a disability. A statement from the Millard School District stated, “upon learning of the incident, district administration immediately initiated an investigation. After reviewing the available information and interviewing the parties involved, it was determined that immediate termination of employment was the only appropriate course of action…The safety and well-being of our students is our highest priority, and the district remains firmly committed to maintaining a safe and supportive learning environment for all students.”
