(Provo, UT) — A BYU study says there’s a greater risk of type-two diabetes from drinking sugary drinks than from eating sugary eats. Lead author and BYU nutritional science professor Karen Della Corte says this is the first study to show “relationships between different sugar sources and type two diabetes risk.” The study showed each additional 12-ounce serving of sugary beverages such as soft drinks, energy drinks or sports drinks increased the risk of developing type-two diabetes by 25 percent. By comparison, 20 grams per day of table sugar and other sugars did not have such an effect.
