Utah Bill Protects Doctors Who Object to Certain Medical Services

(Salt Lake City, UT) — A new bill in Utah would allow physicians to refuse non-life-threatening medical services based on their personal medical, moral, religious, or ethical beliefs. Senator Evan Vickers, of Cedar City, sponsors SB-320, which provides quote “conscientious objection” protection for doctors, addressing issues such as abortion, transgender care, vaccines, and birth control. While the bill aims to offer legal cover for physicians, it excludes objections in cases where a patient’s life is in danger. Vickers emphasized the bill’s need for further refinement as it progresses.
