(Salt Lake City, UT) — A bill allowing adults who were adopted to obtain their original birth certificate is through the Utah Legislature. It was approved by the House on Friday with near-unanimous support after getting through the Senate without a single lawmaker opposed. The measure would eliminate the requirement for adoptees to have to go before a judge to see their birth certificate and adoption records, but birth parents can still request for those records to remain sealed. It’s now up to Governor Spencer Cox to sign the bill or give it a veto.
