Sanpete County Sheriff’s Office releases statement on fired North Sanpete teacher

The Sanpete County Sheriff has released the following statement regarding a report of a fired teacher at North Sanpete High School. Mid Utah Radio has chosen not to name the teacher at this time.

 

“On May 2, 2018 the school resource officer at North Sanpete High School was informed of text messages that had been sent and received between a female student and a teacher. The messages were reported to be of a sexual nature. Since this report, investigators from the Sanpete County Sheriff’s Office have seized multiple electronic devices from the teacher and the female student. Multiple search warrants seeking to obtain communication records, as well as to search the electronic devices, have been obtained and are being processed. At this point in the investigation, there has been no indication of any exchange of explicit images between the teacher and the female student. The Sheriff’s Office is working closely with the Sanpete County Attorney’s office who will make the final determination if any charges may be filed. This case is still under investigation.
