BYU Men’s Basketball Adds John Linehan As Assistant Coach

PROVO, Utah-Wednesday, BYU men’s basketball head coach Kevin Young added John Linehan to his staff.

Linehan comes to the Cougars from the Saint Joseph’s staff where he had served as an assistant for the Hawks since 2022.

The 5-9 Linehan is a native of Chester, Pa., a Philadelphia suburb and starred at Chester High School as well as Providence from 1997-2002. As a collegian, Linehan averaged 8.1 points and 3.7 assists per game during his career for the Friars and led the Big East in steals on three occasions.

After going undrafted in 2002, Linehan played in the NBA Developmental League and overseas. While playing for Paris Racing (2004-2006) in France, Linehan earned the nickname “Le Virus.”

After retiring in 2013, Linehan began his coaching career in 2015-16 as an operations assistant at Drexel.

Since 2016, Linehan has been an assistant throughout Division I at Brown (2016-17), Hartford (2017-19), Georgia (2019-22) and Saint Joseph’s.
