(Salt Lake City, UT) — Utah Governor Spencer Cox signed two controversial bills into law yesterday. The first was House Bill 257, also known as the “transgender bathroom bill”, which requires transgender people to use a public bathroom or changing room that coincides with their sex assigned at birth. The only exceptions are if they’ve undergone surgery or changed their birth certificate. The other bill was House Bill 261, which replaces diversity, equity, and inclusion programs at Utah universities and colleges with Student Success Centers. The centers will be open to all students regardless of their race, gender, or sexual orientation.
