(Salt Lake City, UT) — Governor Spencer Cox does not want lotteries to be legal in Utah. The Legislature will consider legalizing lotteries like Powerball and Mega Millions when the next session begins in January. Cox said on Wednesday that he’s not a fan of that idea. He said lotteries take advantage of people who might not realize the long odds against buying a winning lottery ticket. Cox said he thinks lotteries are “taxes on people who are bad at math.” He said lotteries do more harm than good.
