(Salt Lake City, UT) — Utah Governor Spencer Cox wants colleges and universities to remain neutral on current events so students will be encouraged to engage in dialogue on issues. Speaking on CBS’ Face the Nation, Cox — who chairs the National Governors Association — said he wants “robust discussions” to take place on campuses. The Republican governor claims colleges and universities across the country are trying to silence “dissent” by students. But he also emphasized that students need to feel safe to express themselves. Cox and Colorado Governor Jared Polis have launched the “Disagree Better” bipartisan initiative as co-chairs of the National Governors Association.
