The Spring City Water System is routinely monitored for bacterial contamination. The water sample taken on September 11, tested positive for Total Coliform and additional samples taken on September 13 tested positive for E. coli. The State Division of Drinking Water requires that a boil order be issued until the system can be disinfected and flushed, and the source of the problem is found and fixed.
The city is chlorinating and flushing the water system, and increasing sampling for coliform bacteria to determine the source of the contamination.
They will be working with the Division of Drinking Water to complete a Level 2 Assessment in
the coming weeks. For those who need it, bottled water will be available outside the fire station at 150 East Center Street on Friday September 15.
Residents will be informed when tests no longer show bacteria, and boiling is no longer needed. Test
results can take 1-2 days.
Boiled or bottled water should be used for drinking, making ice, brushing teeth, washing dishes,
and food preparation until further notice.
