Popular Zion National Park Trail Rerouted Due To Bridge Safety Issues

(Zion National Park, UT) — Just ahead of the Memorial Day weekend, a popular trail in Zion National Park is being rerouted because of safety problems with a bridge over the Virgin River. Engineers with the National Park Service and the Federal Highway Administration determined that a bridge in the Emerald Pool trail complex, between Zion Lodge and the trail system, is unsafe because it’s shifting on its foundation. Park rangers say the trail is being rerouted for the foreseeable future. Visitors who want to reach the Lower, Middle, and Upper Emerald Pool trails now need to start at either the San Bench trail at Court of the Patriarchs or the Kayenta trail at the Grotto, accessible at stops Number 4 and Number 6 on the shuttle service.
