(Salt Lake City, UT) — Utah Senator Mitt Romney hasn’t said whether he’ll run for re-election next year and he already has a challenger. In a video posted to Twitter Tuesday morning, Riverton Mayor Trent Staggs announced his candidacy for the Republican U.S. Senate nomination and made a number of digs at Romney, although he didn’t mention the GOP senator by name. Staggs was unsuccessful in his run for Salt Lake County mayor in 2020. While the 2012 Republican presidential nominee hasn’t announced a re-election run, he filed a statement of candidacy with the Federal Election Commission last month. Romney said he hasn’t made a decision yet but told reporters, “I’m convinced that if I run, I win.”
