(Salt Lake City, UT) — Utah Governor Spencer Cox is naming his pick to be the new Great Salt Lake Commissioner. Cox announced yesterday he’s selecting Brian Steed for the position, who also serves as executive director of Utah State University’s Institute for Land, Water and Air. In a statement, the governor said Steed’s “passion and expertise for the lake will ensure its future is secure for generations to come.” Steed’s appointment still needs to be approved by the state Senate. The legislature created the position to have somebody oversee efforts to get water back in the lake after levels hit an historic low last year.
