American Red Cross To Get Nearly $9M From LDS Church

(Salt Lake City, UT) — The American Red Cross is getting nearly nine-million dollars from the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. The president and CEO of the Red Cross thanked the Church for the donation yesterday, saying it was making a difference for people in need every day. The money will go toward purchasing equipment, funding programs for people with cancer and sickle cell disease and for mobile blood donation centers. Church members were the largest single source of Red Cross blood donations last year, with more than 70-thousand donors signing up for more than two-thousand blood drives.
