LDS Apostle Holland Has Health Issue, Won’t Speak At SUU Commencement

(Cedar City, UT) — Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Apostle Jeffrey R. Holland is pulling back from all church assignments because of a health issue and won’t speak at Southern Utah University’s commencement ceremony later this month. The church said yesterday that the 82-year-old Holland recently began receiving kidney dialysis and has been “excused” from all church assignments for “at least” the next two months. Holland was not at last weekend’s General Conference because he and his wife are suffering with COVID-19. His planned address at SUU’s commencement has generated controversy among LGBTQ students and faculty over a remark he made during an address at BYU in 2021.
