INDIANAPOLIS-Tuesday, Utah Valley, Weber State and Utah State men’s basketball were all honored by the National Association of Basketball Coaches All-District VIII Team.
The All-District VIII team player of the year is Utah State junior guard Steven Ashworth. The former Lone Peak High School star averages 16.3 points and 4.5 assists per game for the Aggies. He also shoots 45.1 percent from behind the 3-point line on the season, ranking him 5th nationally.
Ashworth is joined on the squad by teammate, senior forward Taylor Funk. Funk averages 13.3 points and 5.5 rebounds per game for the Aggies on the season. Utah State faces Missouri Thursday in the NCAA Tournament at Sacramento, Calif.
The Wolverines are represented by All-District VIII coach of the year, Mark Madsen. In his fourth season at the helm of the program, Madsen recorded a record of 25-8 (.758).
Madsen is 67-50 (.573) at UVU. Other Wolverines joining him include sophomore forward/center Aziz Bandaogo and junior guard/forward Le’tre Darthard.
Bandaogo averages 11.5 points and 10.2 rebounds per game for the Wolverines. Darthard averages 14.2 points and 3.5 rebounds per game for UVU. Madsen, Bandaogo, Darthard and their squad play at New Mexico in the first round of the NIT Wednesday.
Weber State is represented by junior point guard Dillon Jones. Jones averaged 16.7 points and 10.9 rebounds per game for the Wildcats.
