(Minot, ND) — A Utah man is facing extradition after being arrested in North Dakota on a charge of child kidnapping. The Piute County Sheriff’s Office says Heber Jeffs will appear before a judge in North Dakota today. A warrant for Jeffs’ arrest was issued after he disappeared from Piute County last year with his sister’s ten-year-old daughter. Jeffs is a member of the Fundamentalist LDS Church and was apparently following a directive issued by his uncle, jailed polygamist leader Warren Jeffs. The Sheriff’s Office says the girl is safe and should soon be reunited with her parents.
