(Salt Lake City, UT) — America’s energy secretary says Utah has role to play as the nation transitions from fossil fuels to clean energy. Secretary Janet Granholm was at the University of Utah on Wednesday and promoted Utah FORGE, the Energy Department’s largest and most advanced laboratory for what’s called “enhanced” geothermal energy. The lab an hour north of Cedar City is researching ways to use geothermal energy to contribute to the nation’s supply of electricity. Granholm also toured the geothermal plant inside the U’s Gardner Commons building, which can be used to heat the building in the winter and cool it in summer.
