(Salt Lake City, UT) — A Utah Senate committee is advancing several bills dealing with transgender youth. The Health and Human Services Committee voted 5-2 yesterday in favor of a bill that would ban gender-affirming surgery and hormone therapy treatments in Utah. The committee also voted to advance a bill that would keep anyone under 18 from asking for a name or gender change on a birth certificate. Another bill approved by the committee will keep school districts from allowing students to use a name or gender that’s not on their birth certificate without a parent’s permission. All three bills now go to the full Senate for consideration.
