(Salt Lake City, UT) — A new development may be giving Salt Lake City’s Olympic bid a leg up on the competition. Officials in Sapporo, Japan have placed a pause on their bid for the 2030 Winter Olympics while dealing with a bribery scandal tied to the 2020 Summer Olympics. Officials say they will resume the effort after working to regain public support. The news leaves Salt Lake City as the only bidder with an active campaign to secure the 2030 or 2034 Winter Olympics. The International Olympic Committee announced earlier this month that it would delay any discussion about the site of the 2030 Games until late next year.
