Weber State Football Roundup: 12/20

OGDEN, Utah-Tuesday, Weber State football had a big day with several distinctive events occurring.

The Wildcats announced Mickey Mental as their new head coach following a national search per remarks from Weber State athletic director Tim Crompton.

Mental spent the 2022 season as the Wildcats’ offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach. Under Mental’s guidance, the Wildcats ranked in the Top 25 nationally in scoring offense, rushing offense, first downs and 3rd down conversion percentage.

Prior to this, Mental was the head coach at NCAA Division II Notre Dame College of South Euclid, Ohio. While there, Mental posted a record of 16-2 in two seasons at the helm of the Falcons’ program.

The 37-year-old Mental is the 12th head coach in Weber State football history (1962-present).

Mental starred as a quarterback at NCAA Division III Baldwin-Wallace of Berea, Ohio and earned a tryout with the Cleveland Browns.

Former Weber State head coach Jay Hill stated “Weber State is very lucky to have [Mental] as the new head coach.”

Additionally, four Wildcats were  named as FCS STATS All-Americans Tuesday.

Making the first team were junior cornerback Eddie Heckard and sophomore cornerback Abraham Williams.

Earning third-team All-American honors for the Wildcats were junior cornerback Maxwell Anderson and junior guard Noah Atagi.
