(Washington, DC) — Funding to help preserve the Great Salt Lake is included in a massive defense spending bill that passed Congress yesterday. The defense bill includes funding for the military, energy security and homeland defense. Thanks to members of Utah’s congressional delegation, the package includes ten-million dollars that will be used to study the hydrology of the saline lakes in the Great Basin. Researchers will use the data to develop conservation measures for the Great Salt Lake.
