(Salt Lake City, UT) — The Utah Geological Survey is getting a federal grant to study an iridium deposit in Juab County. The 300-thousand-dollar grant will allow the agency to team with American West Metals to study the deposit. No iridium was produced in the U.S. last year, and the deposit in the West Desert could supply the country’s needs for the next decade. Iridium is used in a variety of consumer products such as smartphone screens, windshields and solar panels.
