(Salt Lake City, UT) — Utah’s Health and Human Services Interim Committee is debating on a bill that bans gender-affirming surgery. The Sex Characteristic Surgical Procedures bill was brought forth by Republican Senator Michael Kennedy. Kennedy explains that the bill doesn’t prohibit minors from “pursuing transgender care,” but it does forbid them from permanent changes associated with surgery. The committee didn’t reach a unanimous vote, so they’ll have to engage in two more rounds of committee hearings.
