ROOSEVELT, Utah-Kayson Douglas completed 12 of 16 passes for 233 yards and three scores as the Manti Templars overpowered Union 35-21 Friday in non-region football action to commence the season for both squads.

Reggie Frischknecht (3 rec, 52 yards, 2 TD’s) and Hunter Stevens (2 rec, 66 yards, TD) also excelled for the Templars in the victory.

Defensively, Lincoln Alder and Dylan Anderson each recorded interceptions for the Templars while Troy Madsen had 1.5 sacks for Manti.

In defeat, the Cougars were paced by Jackson Rasmussen (23 of 45, 234 yards, TD/2 INT’s) and Alec Labrum (8 rec, 110 yards, TD).

The Templars outgained the Cougars 380-314 and averaged 7.2 yards per play as offensive coordinator Fred Taukie’aho’s offense showed significant improvement from last season in Manti’s first game of the new campaign.

Last season, Manti averaged 19.5 points per game.

Manti returns to action Friday by hosting the Delta Rabbits in their home opener. Union returns to play Friday by visiting regional rival Uintah.

KANAB, Utah-Griffen Bone threw a 23-yard touchdown pass to Kason Janes as time expired and Parker Franklin converted the 2-point conversion as the Kanab Cowboys broke a 12-game losing streak to Beaver with a 22-21 victory Friday in non-region play. Janes added a 15-yard scoring reception and Franklin had another touchdown run in victory for Kanab. Ayden Bradshaw, Tate Gale and Bodie Wheatley each scored in the loss for the Beavers.

PAYSON, Utah-Kade Edwards threw four touchdown passes to Cooper Swasey and the Payson Lions routed North Sanpete 44-14 in non-region play Friday. Tyler Allan threw a touchdown pass and P.J. Cook had a 4-yard scoring run in defeat for the Hawks.

MILFORD, Utah-Kilo Tsosie threw a pair of touchdown passes and the Milford Tigers bested Duchesne 34-20 Friday in non-region play. Tsosie also ran for a score for Milford while Quaid Thompson added a 5-yard touchdown run and Griffin Walker returned a fumble 7 yards for another score for the Tigers in victory.

GUNNISON, Utah-Tyrek Hopkins had scoring runs of 1, 1 and 80 yards, amassing over 200 yards on the ground, and Andres Valencia added a 19-yard touchdown run and a 28-yard interception return for another score as the Gunnison Valley Bulldogs decimated ALA 52-6 Friday in non-region play. Bryson Sorensen added a 2-yard touchdown reception from Skippy Jackson and Kaleb Belnap and Judy Pearson also had touchdown runs in victory for Gunnison Valley.

SALINA, Utah-Jace Noyes hauled in a scoring reception and Kannin Boswell added a touchdown run as the North Sevier Wolves overcame a 12-0 deficit to prevail 15-12 over South Sevier, winning their fourth straight against the Rams Friday in non-region play. Carter Abraham threw a scoring pass and Grayson Friant ran for another score in defeat for the Rams.

FILLMORE, Utah-Emery Thorson threw a 20-yard touchdown pass to Kai Thomas and added scoring runs of 25 and 4 yards as the Richfield Wildcats smacked Millard 31-7 in non-region play Friday. Karter Frischknecht returned a punt 55 yards for a score and Gavin Anderson recorded a 21-yard field goal in victory for the Wildcats. Luke DeGraffenried caught a 4-yard touchdown pass from Kaden Turner in the loss for the Eagles.

NEPHI, Utah-Alex Jackson threw three touchdown passes and the Juab Wasps hammered Emery 59-14 Friday in non-region play. Chase Ingram had three total touchdowns for the Wasps, including a 29-yard scoring catch from Jackson and touchdown runs of four and 15 yards for Juab. Ryker Richards, Wesley Nielsen and Cooper Blackett also had touchdown runs for Juab. Richards included a 25-yard field goal for his contributions to the Wasps’ success in the season opener.

DELTA, Utah-Jake Smith had scoring runs of  9, 23 and 1 yard and the North Summit Braves humbled Delta 19-13 in non-region play Friday. Hunt Robinson threw a 41-yard touchdown pass to Cameron Smith and Blade Brandow added a 4-yard touchdown run in defeat for the Rabbits.

Baseball

Merit Tournament

SPRINGVILLE, Utah-Antonio Moreno drove in four runs and the Bryce Valley Mustangs routed Maeser Prep 14-1 Friday at the Merit Tournament. Rafe Brinkerhoff earned the win on the mound for the Mustangs.

SPRINGVILLE, Utah-Joel Romo and Antonio Moreno drove in a pair of runs apiece and the Bryce Valley Mustangs lassoed the Altamont Longhorns 6-1 at the Merit Tournament Friday. Treyson Clark earned the win on the mound for Bryce Valley.

Girls Soccer

DELTA, Utah-Kate Smith found the net twice and the Delta Rabbits blanked Payson 3-0 Friday in non-region girls soccer play. Allison Clark recorded the shutout for the Rabbits.

MANTI, Utah-Kaylee Parry, Megan Cluff and Morgan Chidester each scored and the Manti Templars downed Emery 3-0 in non-region girls soccer play Friday. Brynlee Wathen earned the shutout for the Templars in the win.

Volleyball

BICKNELL, Utah-The Wayne Badgers overpowered Green River 3-0 Friday in non-region volleyball play. The Badgers bested the Pirates 25-14, 25-18, 25-22 to earn the straight sets victory.
