Utah police investigating attack on gay couple as hate crime

SANDY, Utah (AP) — An attack against a gay couple in suburban Salt Lake City is being investigated as a hate crime.

Sandy Police said on Wednesday that they had arrested a 17-year-old on suspicion of assault, alleging that he had physically attacked and used derogatory slurs against the couple just after midnight early Saturday morning.

A video recording taken outside the home of one of the victims shows a car full of other young men pulling up, using homophobic slurs and fighting.

The couple told local media they were standing at the end of the driveway to one of their homes when they were attacked.
