ST. GEORGE, Utah-In news released Tuesday, Utah Tech men’s basketball forward Hunter Schofield was named as the 2021-22 Western Athletic Conference Stan Bates Award winner.

Named in honor of former WAC commissioner Stan Bates, this annual award is presented to the conference’s top male and female scholar athletes and recognizes athletic, academic and community accomplishments.

The female recipient was Grand Canyon softball pitcher Gianna Nicoletti.

Schofield and Nicoletti will each collect a $3,000 postgraduate scholarship as part of the overall award presentation.

Schofield graduated this past May and previously starred at Spanish Fork High School and Salt Lake CC.

Last season, Schofield posted just under 15 points and 6.3 rebounds per game for the Trailblazers.
