State Agency Predicts Great Salt Lake Hit New Low Later This Year

(Salt Lake City, UT) — The Great Salt Lake is likely to hit a new low-water record sometime later this year. That’s the prediction made by the Utah Department of Natural Resources during a briefing given yesterday to the Salt Lake County Council. The agency says this year’s snowpack will not keep the lake from dropping below the record low of four-thousand, 191-feet set last year. Council members expressed concern that the shrinking lake could create an economic and ecological catastrophe for the region. They urged all Salt Lake County residents to increase their water conservation efforts.
