Funding approved for new courthouse in Manti

After a last minute battle over final construction costs, the Utah State legislature has approved $14.2 million for construction of the new courthouse in Manti, almost $6 million less than originally proposed for the building.  According to Senator Derrin Owens, supporters of the project were able to secure the money following back and forth discussion on the total amount to be funded.  Property has already been secured in downtown Manti, and an architect has released a rendering of the 28,700 square foot building.  It will be similar in design and coloring to the existing Sanpete County Courthouse.  The new courthouse will include two courtrooms; however, because of the shortfall of the requested funds, only one of the rooms will be completed initially.  The other courtroom will be finished as the county shows it needs the space.
