1A State Tournament
RICHFIELD, Utah-Kyle Morgan netted 17 points on 5-6 from the field as the No. 2 Piute Thunderbirds won their first state title since 1996 with a 49-42 win over Panguitch in the 1A state championship game Saturday at the Sevier Valley Center. Tucker Chappell posted 15 points and 8 rebounds on 6-9 from the field in the loss for the Bobcats.
3rd-4th Place @ Sevier Valley Center
RICHFIELD, Utah-Brock Syrett posted 14 points and the No. 4 Bryce Valley Mustangs bested the No. 3 Manila Mustangs 42-35 to earn third place in the 1A state tournament Saturday at the Sevier Valley Center. Kyler Hughes had 15 points on 7-10 from the field in defeat for the Manila Mustangs.
5th-6th Place @ Sevier Valley Center
RICHFIELD, Utah-McCoy Harris posted 12 points and 10 rebounds on 6-9 from the field and the No. 9 Valley Buffaloes outlasted the No. 6 Tabiona Tigers 45-44 in the 5th-6th place game at the Sevier Valley Center Saturday.
Lawson Curry’s 17 points and 5 rebounds on 6-12 from the field led the Tigers in defeat. Valley concludes the season with a record of 16-10.
6th-8th Place @ Richfield High School
RICHFIELD, Utah-Hunter Mitchell and Reed Edwards had 9 points apiece and the No. 14 Wayne Badgers hammered No. 13 Rich 47-27 to earn 6th place at the 1A state tournament Saturday at Richfield High School. Hayden Weston and Riley Carrillo had 6 points apiece for the Rebels in defeat.

State Championship Game
RICHFIELD, Utah-Tera Morgan stepped up with 24 points on 9-12 from the field and 3-4 behind the arc as the No. 1 Piute Thunderbirds successfully defended last season’s 1A state championship by besting No. 2 Tabiona 38-30 Saturday at the Sevier Valley Center. Abbie Rhoades had 11 points for the Tigers in the loss. Piute concludes the season with a record of 25-1.
This is Piute’s third all-time state championship in girls basketball. The T-Birds have now emerged victorious on the hardwood in 2010, 2021 and 2022.
3rd-4th Place Game @ Sevier Valley Center
RICHFIELD, Utah-Abbee Holman posted 15 points and 10 rebounds (10-10 at the foul line) and the No. 4 Panguitch Bobcats drilled No. 6 Rich 53-46 to earn 3rd place at the 1A state tournament Saturday at the Sevier Valley Center. Ambria Lutz had 9 points in defeat for the Rebels.
5th-6th Place Game @ Sevier Valley Center
RICHFIELD, Utah-Melissa Jessop’s 19 points led the way and the No. 9 Water Canyon Wildcats downed No. 14 Milford 50-35 Saturday at the Sevier Valley Center. Jaleana Tsosie had 13 points for the Tigers in defeat. Water Canyon earned 5th place with the win.
6th-8th Place Game @ Richfield High School
RICHFIELD, Utah-Janilyn Hoyt posted 18 points on six 3-pointers and the No. 13 Valley Buffaloes upset No. 7 Wendover 55-39 to secure 6th place at the 1A state tournament Saturday at Richfield High School. Leslie Luna had 14 points in defeat for the Wildcats.
